TikTok is on a self-improvement kick lately, so we're rounding up what they're using to elevate their wallets, beauty, and overall vibes.

🚨 TikTok's guide to smarter spending (and perhaps the biggest trend right now): de-influencing

Move over, #tiktokmademebuyit, 2023 is the year of #deinfluencing. Lately, Creators have been taking to TikTok to share the items they didn’t need to buy, essentially “deinfluencing” them. Creators have deinfluenced everything from an overpriced contour wand with basically no product to the whole concept of fast fashion.

While the trend started in late 2022, it has taken off in the wake of #lashgate, as users question Creators' credibility and become increasingly aware of how TikTok can perpetuate overconsumption.

#Deinfluencing has:

173M+ views (+39% in the past week)

13M+ likes

158K+ comments

112K+ shares

12% engagement rate

💅 Creator to inspire a makeover moment: Melissa Murdick (@itsmakeupbymelissam)

Melissa is Selena Gomez’s makeup artist and has become TikTok’s new go to for their biggest makeup questions. She has seen a massive spike in new followers, gaining 314K+ (an 84% increase) in the past week alone. What makes Melissa stand out is her focus on education and technique (think: how to apply concealer that doesn’t crease or how to cover up a zit) rather than endless product reviews and recommendations.

We can't help but wonder if Melissa's recent follower boom is yet another ripple effect of #lashgate. In a TikTok culture that’s questioning creators’ integrity and is chafing against endless product pushes, Melissa is the credible, informative beauty creator we need.

Melissa's stats:

5.6M total likes (up 20% in the past week)

265K average views per video

7% engagement rate

🎶 The latest TikTok bop to level up your playlist: "In Ha Mood" - Ice Spice

The latest effect to take TikTok by storm is the dancing Barbie dogs filter, which lets users overlay two white dogs doing some impressive choreo over any background. Fans instantly began using the effect to show them and their bestie partying at the club when they promised to stay in or heading to the fridge when they just said they weren’t hungry. The go to song Creators are pairing with this effect is “In Ha Mood” by Ice Spice, which is an absolute bop.

Videos using the song have increased by 69% in the last week, jumping to 772K total with over 2B views and a 16% engagement rate.
